Setsubun in CLAY

Updated: Feb 4

Can you believe this??? A blue demon disturbed our classes! How can one study in these conditions????

「鬼は外!福は内!」

「鬼は外!福は内!」

Say it loud and clear: "Demons out! Good fortune in!" Why? Because today is 節分 (せつぶん) — Setsubun in our Academy!

節 (せつ) means "time" or "season,"

分 (わけます) means "divide."

Traditionally, Setsubun marks the day before the beginning of spring in Japan according to the lunar calendar. This year it's February, 2nd. On this day, people perform the mamemaki (bean-throwing) ceremony to drive away evil spirits and invite good fortune.

The usual chant during mamemaki is:

「鬼は外!福は内!」 (Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!)
